Elijah (Luke 1:17), although there was a strong tradition that Elijah would return in the physical sense (cf. Matt. 11:14; 17:10 ff.; Mark 9:11 ff.; also John 1:21). Thus the representative prophet, priest, and king are already idealized in the Old Testament to point the way to their fulfillment in the New.
